Prevent identity fraud
After a death, several weeks may pass before all banks and authorities block accounts. Below are immediate steps.
Block bank cards
- Geldmaat: block your card via your bank
Every Dutch bank has its own 24/7 line to block cards. Use it as soon as possible.
Block DigiD
- DigiD: cancel or block an account
Next of kin can cancel a deceased person's DigiD as soon as the death certificate is available.
Honest note: Dutch banks do not share a single Card Stop hotline. It takes a few extra calls, but most banks handle blocking in one conversation.
